CAN I CHANGE MY NAME BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY?
No, you need your marriage certificate to change your name.

WHEN CAN I START CHANGING MY NAME?
After you receive your marriage certificate.

WHAT IF I WANT TO HYPHENATE MY MAIDEN AND MARRIED SURNAMES?
As soon as you have your marriage certificate you can change your name in the same way as if you were changing it to just your husband's surname.

IF WE'RE GOING OVERSEAS FOR OUR HONEYMOON, DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY PASSPORT?
No, in all likelihood you won't have time to change your details before you leave on honeymoon. Use your maiden name when travelling overseas on your honeymoon, so all your id matches. Flight reservations and hotel bookings etc, should also be made in your maiden name. If there is sufficient time between your wedding day (when you'll receive your marriage certificate) and the day you leave for your honeymoon, you may be able to have a passport issued in your married name. To do this, you will first have to change some other form of identification to your new name, e.g. your drivers licence, as you will need to present this and your marriage certificate with your application for a new passport.

DO I HAVE TO NOTIFY AUTHORITIES OF MY CHANGE OF NAME IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER?
Not necessarily, but we have included a checklist giving step by step instructions on changing your name so that you don't leave any out!

DO I HAVE TO SHOW MY ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE WHEN CHANGING MY NAME?
Most records can be changed via the mail or they can be faxed. We specify in each case whether you need to personally attend and present the original, or if a photocopy will suffice.

DO I HAVE TO CHANGE MY NAME ON EVERYTHING?
No. Many women choose to retain their maiden name at their workplace, and use their married name in their personal life. This can cause some confusion however, so we have included everything you need to make a complete name change.
